As noted last week, The Schools Cricket Committee have had issues with their emails to schools in recent weeks. As a result, we now have new email addresses. They are:
Rob Morris: [email protected]
Andy Whittall: [email protected]
Wisden matters: [email protected]
Please use these email address from now onwards as the Yahoo addresses will no longer be monitored after the end of May.
With the advent of warmer weather in the last week, the 2023 season has started in earnest with a huge number of games played since last week even though Thursday was wet in many parts of the country. Despite last weekend being a bank holiday weekend, many schools played on Saturday that in previous years has not always been the case. One presumes that many boarding schools have re-arranged their leave weekends to coincide with the Coronation celebrations this weekend, so the programme will not be so busy. The other thing to note is that many more schools are playing 20 over cricket in their midweek fixtures rather than longer formats such as 40 or 50 games. Only games against adult teams such as the MCC, XL Club and Free Foresters seem to be traditional declaration games these days.
The National Schools Boys Under 18 T20 has also started with some regions playing a straight knock out where large numbers are involved, or the traditional round robins involving 3 or 4 schools. The South West plays a two tier league with the 6 best schools in the region playing in the main competition and another 16 schools competing in 4 mini leagues with promotion and relegation between the two tiers. This year, most regions have seeded teams who are exempt from the initial stages. These schools have been selected on their performance in the last 5 years of competition.
The National Schools Boys Under 17 completion has also started and results can be found towards the end of the scores.
In addition, I would welcome more scores for Girl’s 1st XIs
