Once again, the weather played a part in last week’s fixtures. Poor weather in the Midlands and North West on Friday night put paid to a lot of fixtures, though London and the South East enjoyed sunny conditions on Saturday. With many boarding schools on Exeat weekend, there were fewer fixtures than normal.
The good weather allowed Cranleigh’s Adam Thomas to chance to record his 3rd century of the season, with 141 scored against St. Paul’s. The Surrey Under 18 batter now has his sights set on Cranleigh’s all time batting record.
Thomas’s Cranleigh team are also through to the semi-final phase of the South East regional competition of the National Boys U18 T20, where they will face BACA and the winners of George Abbott School and RGS Guildford. BACA claimed their 2nd major scalp when they defeated Brighton College by 78 runs last week. On Sunday, Eastbourne overcame Ardingly and Bede’s to take their place in the other semi-final group with Tonbridge and King’s Canterbury.
There were also a number of other good performances from the state schools and colleges left in the competition. In the North London group, RGS High Wycombe beat Haberdashers’, Elstree, while Moulton College from Northampton defeated Wellingborough in the East competition.
With exam leave starting for many this week, there inevitably will be less midweek cricket for first XI’s, however the National Under 17 boy’s competition is well under way with 118 entrants, 17% of whom are from the state sector. The latest results can be found by scrolling down.
Joining the National Boys Under 18 T20 final at Lord’s on the 28th June will be the National Girls U18 100-ball. This competition is now in its 4th year and is more popular than ever. Latest results can be found by scrolling down. The performance of the week in girl’s cricket must come from Charlotte Stubbs of Latymer Upper, who smashed 141 from just 71 balls in her school’s School Sport Magazine U18 T20 first round cup game against Ibstock Place School.
