In 1902 during excavations in Verulamium it is reported that a document was found, written in very poor Latin, describing what might be called an international sporting fixture between the roman legions and the local population. In the subsequent 2000 years there have only been two international cricketers, Pascal Culverhouse who played for France and Nick Beardow who played for the Federal Territories of Malaysia who have attended the School. Regular cricket matches date back to the mid-19th century but it is really only in the last thirty years that any sort of consistent high standard has been reached at the School and only since the opening of the magnificent Woollams playing fields that it has been possible to play 10-14 matches at a time on a Saturday. Current Middlesex cricketer, George Scott, is an old boy of the School.
