With so much rain around in recent days, results are far thinner than usual Many schools managed to get in some cricket albeit with shortened matches. Nevertheless, there was still time for some extraordinary performnces.
James Arney of Monkton Combe managed to take four for nought to dismiss Downside for 38 and help his side to a ten-wicket win. His haul included a hat-trick.
Jake Kings at Rugby found himself stranded on 95 not out as numerous rain-breaks forced a declaration on 199 for six. What then happened was remarkable as Bernie Bennet-Jones ?swung it round corners? in the words of the Rugby scorer and finished with figures of six for nine from seven overs to dismiss Uppingham for 58.
The very competitive Taunton scene, with three excellent cricketing schools, took another twist as Taunton School ? having last week lost to Queen?s – overcame King?s. The game had been reduced to 45 overs and Todd Barrett (64) helped the latter to a competitive score of 198 for nine. After a sound start, Taunton School collapsed to 97 for six but Josh Kelly (30) and Guy Skinner (82 from 55 balls) put on 99 for the seventh wicket in ten overs, with Oliver Kelham hitting the winning runs.
Tom Cummins scored a quick-fire 116, including 14 fours and six sixes, in Woodhouse Grove?s total of 288-3 against Pocklington. His innings allowed Woodhouse Grove to declare after 38.3 overs and was crucial to Woodhouse Grove?s 117-run victory, as Pocklington showed some stubborn resistance in batting for 55 overs and coming close to salvaging a draw.
