Now that the schools cricket season has moved into its sadly quiet phase, what with half-term and horrible exams, I have space to give more prominence to the excellent initiative by ECB of producing coaching assistance. So I repeat here what I mentioned at the very end of last week?s rather lengthy piece:

Shrewsbury, one of the strongest cricket schools in the country, had an uncomfortable brush with disaster against Myerscough College. Having dismissed the latter for a very modest 106, they found themselves 68 for seven but then squeezed home without losing another wicket. For good measure, the game was won with a six?by the Head of school playing his first game for the XI.
Blessed with reasonably fine weather in the early weeks of term, the National Twenty20 competition is reaching its final stages (finals day is Friday July 1st at Arundel, 10am start). There?s always a good crowd at this glorious ground (with plenty of parking on the ground itself). To see details of the 2015 competition click here. Despite exams, the North-East section had an excellent finals day where Woodhouse Grove, winners of the competition in 2014, overcame Worksop to become the champions of their area. They now play either The Manchester Grammar School or Sedbergh for a place at Arundel.
